lamenting with j

teachers preachers parents and friends
where does my life begin and where does theirs end
the man on the box says son your lucky as heather
you’re gifted, go to uni cos you’re quite clever
improve yourself, prove yourself and then go to work
improve yourself, prove yourself, tuck in that shirt

I’m walking down the road with a busload of people the same age as me all hurriedly shuffling to make our 11am. Turning left, we look up to the cool, marble pillars of the university we enrolled at 7 weeks prior. Its impressive. Everyone’s thoughts are concentrated solely on the building and what lays behind it’s walls: a Babylon of learning and promise as rich as nectar. Everyone’s thoughts except mine. For we are a swarm of bees but my stripes are pink and green. Milk and honey are not enough to sate my ambition but, to be honest, I cant think of anyone else to fly with.
